Samsung started the trend of carrying the name, look and features of the flagship phone to some other models and create an entire name family. Recently they came up with one of the most powerful phones on the planet which was called the Samsung Galaxy S4 carrying the family ‘S’ name. Some markets received the twin quad core processor system which makes the phone very powerful and efficient at the same time and others simply got the quad core one.
Apart from the standard Galaxy S4 and the CDMA variant, we recently saw the addition of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, S4 Mini and S4 Zoom.
If you want to have the most powerful device available in stores right now, this is the one to pick. Yes it might look mild-mannered to many but don’t just go for the looks. This device is like a Swiss army knife. You keep finding tools that you never knew existed. It has got either the twin quad core processor running on an Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset or a Krait 300 processor running at 1.9 GHz on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The phone has got an amazing 5 inch AMOLED full HD display which is one of the best we have ever seen on any mobile device. Some models of the device also get the wireless charging feature. Plus you get features like Smart Stay, Smart Scroll and few more smart bits. The device also boasts of Air Gestures.

Galaxy S4 Active
This device is the S4’s athletic cousin. It boasts of IP57 certification for dust and water resistance. For a period of upto 30 minutes, it can bear the water pressure up to the depth of 1 metre. It also has an aqua mode to snap photos underwater where the volume rocker serves as the camera key. The differences are not many. The display on the device is the same size and has the same resolution but it is a TFT instead of an AMOLED. It also has proper physical keys on the front face instead of the capacitive keys found on its sibling. The device has got slightly increased dimensions as compared to the standard device but then it is something you can live with. Samsung decided to go for an 8 megapixel camera sensor instead of the 13 megapixel one on the standard S4 for some reason.
This device feels better as compared to the standard Galaxy S4; maybe due to the pattern on the back. Samsung decided not to go for a unibody design which most companies are adopting nowadays. The hardware of the Galaxy S4 is very capable and this rugged version takes the possibilities to a whole new level. You can make use of the great camera to get great shots without having to worry about the device getting wet or dirty. The device shares the basic hardware with the 1.9 GHz quad core version of the standard Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505).
Galaxy S4 Mini
How can Samsung fail to use the name that has been doing well in the market for its smaller device? What they have done here is use the name and design, put relatively dull hardware under the body and provide some features from the high end device. The phone looks much similar to the parent phone except that is has been scaled down to have a 4.3 inch display instead of the 5 inch on standard phone. It is very light at just 107 grams but gains some thickness. The device follows the exact design scheme as the S4 with the camera and buttons on the same spot.
The phone has a qHD display showing around 256 pixels per inch. The rest of the device hardware brings no surprise. It has a dual core Krait processor clocked at 1.7 GHz coupled with 1.5 GB of RAM for the 3G only model (2 GB RAM for the LTE version). The RAM is plenty for most jobs you will throw at the device and it would run most apps from the Play Store with ease. The phone runs the latest version of Android (4.2.2) with a layer of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.
Galaxy S4 Zoom
This is the most interesting member of the family, one that might not do good numbers but would still be adorable. It is not trying to be a camera with features of a phone (call?). Instead, this is a phone which slightly, very gently serves you with a better camera for your phone. You can use this device to handle your everyday schedule and if the road back from your workplace looks amazing, you can simply let the lens pop out and snap some nice shots with the 16 megapixel camera.
The phone has got dozens of camera modes to choose from and you can also use proper (proper because normally if you zoom on your smartphone you end up with some not-so-good-looking snaps) optical zoom upto 10x. The ISO level can be taken upto 3200 which is a decent number for a mobile camera. Also you will get the expert mode which lets you chose among modes like P/S/M/C. It lets you alter individual settings like a proper camera and get the photographer inside you hooked.
The most favorite bit, the flash. LED flashes have been known to make your friends look like white ghosts, ever since they were invented. This device however gets a proper Xenon flash. The dimensions are a bit uneasy for everyday use but then Samsung needed to find a place for the zoom camera. They are giving you the best of both worlds in a package that would surely turn a lot of eyeballs.
